Background

After a first career in Insurance (FCII, Chartered Insurance Practitioner) and Business Administration (MBA) I took an Access course in Todmorden as a mature student. This led to my enrolment on a BA course in Art and Design, working with ceramics and textiles at Bradford College, where I graduated in 2004. From 2004 to 2006, again at Bradford College, I took a part-time MA in Printmaking (2006), followed by an MA in Visual Arts, this time choosing to focus on ceramics, graduating in 2010.

I have taken part in joint exhibitions with various artists' groups both at college and after graduation. With a number of fellow students, on graduation, we formed the Lister Group for the purpose of putting our work up for exhibition in various locations. Then in 2012 I joined Brier Hey Pottery in Mytholmroyd at the suggestion of ceramics teacher and friend, Sue Turner. After five years of working there our community-based group had to move out of the leaky-roofed premises at the beginning of 2017, some of us joined Penny Hampson and her team at the Ceramics Hub at the Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge.

Shortly after graduation from my BA at Bradford in 2004 I was accepted as a Licentiate of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. Since that time I have been admitted as a Member of the Society (MSDC) and have taken part in Exhibitions with them and a regional group called the Hallam Members of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
